Excerpts of “The Briny Bunch Origins”
The origin of the Briny Bunch: a social and sailing non-profit society using the Sabot sailboat in competition, bay and luncheon cruising, racing seminars and workshops and as an excuse for compatible sailors to get together to laugh, cry and commiserate.
The Briny Bunch started in 1995. A friendship of mutual interests and outlook expanded into forming a delightful larger Briny Bunch and regular weekly and bi-weekly practice racing sessions along with semi-mandatory cocktail hours. Membership is mostly a matter of having a sabot, enjoying watching or helping with sabot races, and the ability to be beaten in races.
Visit the Balboa Yacht Club for the “Briny Bunch” racing schedule.
San Diego Yacht Club hosts Senior Sabot Sailing on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The Saturday sailing is approximately once a month. The Tuesday sailing is weekly throughout the year (with a break during the summer months). Check out their schedule and contact the Fleet Captains for more information.
